What's up! Kyle here.
Let's talk about the number that's been quietly freaking dentists out all year. 68% of Google searches now end without a single click. No website visit, no tap on a listing, nothing. The person asks, Google answers right on the page and everyone moves on.
So when you pull up your analytics and see website traffic sliding, your gut says the marketing is broken. I get the panic. It's aimed at the wrong thing.
Here's what's actually happening. A patient searches "dentist near me" or "how much does an implant cost" and Google hands them everything on the spot. An AI Overview answers the question. The map panel shows your reviews. Ask Maps reads them out loud. The patient picks a practice and calls without ever touching a website.
Now here's the part everyone gets wrong. This does NOT mean your website stopped mattering. It means the opposite.
Your website went from being the destination to being the resume. Google's AI reads your service pages to decide if you're the answer. AI Overviews pull from your FAQs. AI Mode quotes the practices with the deepest, most specific content. A thin website doesn't just lose clicks anymore, it loses recommendations. The endgame shifted. The click used to be the win. Now the win is being the practice the machine recommends and the patient calls.
So here's your move, in three parts.
First, change your scoreboard. Stop grading your marketing on sessions and traffic. Grade it on calls, booked appointments, direction requests and your AI impressions in the new Search Console report I covered a few weeks back. Traffic can fall while new patients climb. That's not a contradiction, that's the system working.
Second, feed the machine. Deep service pages, real FAQs written the way patients actually ask, a Google Business Profile that's airtight. You're writing for two readers now. The AI deciding whether to recommend you and the smaller number of humans who still click, who are much closer to booking than the old drive-by traffic ever was.
Third, read your marketing report with new eyes. If it's a wall of clicks, impressions and sessions with no line for booked patients, your marketing company is grading themselves on a scoreboard Google unplugged.
And if that last one stung, one more thing. The number one reason practices stay stuck with marketing that isn't working is that switching feels like a root canal. So we turned it into a cleaning. Moving to Search-To-Seat takes less than one hour of your time, guaranteed.

Talk next week.
