They Clicked, They Left...Now What?
What if I told you that 1 minute per week could 100X your marketing return? Well, it might.
Read Time: 1 Minute, 49 Seconds
You’re running Google Ads. Maybe even crushing it with SEO.
Patients are searching, clicking, landing on your site … and then?
Most of them don’t book an appointment. That’s the reality.
And here’s the truth - that’s normal. Even the best-performing dental websites only convert a small percentage of visitors on the first visit.
But that doesn’t mean those potential patients are lost. It just means you need a follow-up game plan.
Retargeting On Meta = Your Secret Weapon 🗡️
If someone Googles “dentist near me”, clicks your ad, and doesn’t book, they’re still a warm lead.
They might have gotten distracted. Maybe they were price-checking. Or they were just weighing their options. There are many more reasons they didn’t book than why they would have booked.
But either way, they were interested enough to check you out. If you’re not staying in front of them, your competitors will. I promise you that. For some of you, my agency is that competitor.
And here’s where Meta Retargeting Ads (Facebook & Instagram) come in. They allow you to show hyper-relevant ads ONLY to people who fall in the below buckets.
✅ Visited Your Website But Didn’t Book
✅ Clicked Specific Pages (IE: “dental implants”)
✅ Engaged With Your Social Media But Haven’t Taken Action
And the best part? This is the cheapest, highest-ROI ad strategy you can run.
Because you’re not paying to reach cold audiences. You’re re-engaging people who already know your practice, patients who are much more likely to book.
How Does It Work? 🤨
💡 Step 1: Capture The Audience
• Install the Meta Pixel on your website, this tracks visitors.
• Create Custom Audiences inside Meta Ads Manager, that fall into the below buckets.
• People who visited your website in the last 30, 60 or 90 days.
• People who clicked on specific services, like veneers or whitening.
• People who engaged with your Instagram or Facebook recently.
💡 Step 2: Adjust Your Messaging
Not all leads are the same - so your ads shouldn’t be either.
• If they checked out your implant page, show them an ad like with the below copy.
“Considering dental implants? Here’s why patients choose us for their new smile.”
• If they clicked an emergency service ad, retarget them with the below copy.
“Still in tooth pain? We offer same-day emergency care and are ready to see you.”
• For general leads, build trust with the below social proof.
“200 Five-Star Reviews. Two. Hundred. See why parents trust our team.”
💡 Step 3: Keep Following Up
Most patients won’t book on the first reminder.
• Run a sequence of retargeting ads over time - starting with trust-building (reviews, patient stories) and moving into urgency-based offers. It’s repetition of density.
The Bottom Line
Google Ads and SEO bring in qualified traffic. But most visitors won’t convert on the first visit.
If you’re not retargeting them with Meta ads, you’re letting warm leads go cold. And that’s how your competitors win.
Retargeting is the easiest, highest-ROI ad strategy you can run. It’s cheap, effective, and keeps you top of mind until patients are ready to book.
Not doing this yet? You’re leaving easy patient growth, and revenue, on the table.
